1930 Haile Selassie became the emperor of the Ethiopia.
During his reign, the slavery was abolished, and Ethiopia started to modernize.
1935 Italians invaded Ethiopia
1936 Italians captured Addis Ababa; therefore, Haile Selassie fled to the Britain.
King of Italy chose emperor of Ethiopia; and Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia became Italian East Africa.
1937 On February, more than 30,000 Ethiopians were massacred in Addis Ababa.
1941
March 7 : British troops invaded Abyssinia
April 6 : British and Italian forces surrendered the Italian-held Addis Ababa.
May 5 : Haile Selassie reinstituted his position as the emperor,and sought to modernize the country again.
1942 : Haile Selassie issued a new proclamation of outlawing slavery in Ethiopia which was first informed in 1924.
1952 : UN federated Eritrea with Ethiopia.
1962: Haile Selassie annexed Eritrea; Eritrea became the province of Ethiopia. (Ethiopia made Eritrea as a separate province)
1973: As a result of long drought, about 200,000 people in Wallo province were dead because of the famine.

Jan 12 : The mutiny occurred in Negele Boran due to the bad quality of food and water.
Feb 14 : The students went on strike against a proposed reform in the educational system (the teachers supported it too)
Feb 18 : The teachers stroke for better salary.
The taxi drivers stroke due to the 50% increase of fuel price.
Feb 23 : Haile Selassie conceded some demands from protesters.
Feb 28 : The Prime Minister Aklilu resigned, and it’s replaced by Endelkachew Makonnen.
April 26 : Haile Selassie University was shut by the government due to the several strikes.
July 22 : Prime Minister Endelkachew Makonnen resigned, and it’s replaced by Mikael Imru.
Sep. 12 : Emperor Haile Selassie was deposed; General Tefari Benti became the head of the state.
Nov 23 : The Bloody Saturday was occurred, and 60 Ethiopian government officers were executed.
Dec 20 : The Derg announced the establishment of “Ethiopian Socialism”

Aug 27 : The last emperor of Ethiopia, Haile Selassie died in his palace.

April 17 : Mengistu declared war on the "enemies of the Revolution", beginning the Red Terror.
As many as 100,000 people were killed during the campaign as Mengistu sought to transform the country into a Soviet-style workers' state.
1984~1985: Severe famine killed more than 100,000 Ethiopians.
1991: Ethiopia armed revolution led by the Tigrean People’s Liberation Front took over the government from the Marxist regime of Mengistu Haile Mariam known as the Derg.
